How Kinetic helped Andrew Bryson grow a three-person business into a 42-strong electrical operation across East Tamaki and Franklin.

In 2011, Andrew Bryson wasn’t starting an electrical business from nothing.

He already had a small operation with three people, including himself and his business partner. He had industry experience, technical capability and customers to serve.

But Andrew believed the business could be doing more.

He could see the potential to build a stronger operation, take on larger opportunities and create something that would continue growing beyond its existing foundations.

The question was how to get there.

A business ready for more

Running an established electrical business brings a different set of challenges from starting one.

Andrew didn’t need help learning the trade. He needed the systems, support and wider connections that could help turn a small business into a more scalable operation.

By mid-2011, the business was trading as Kinetic Electrical.

Joining Kinetic gave Andrew access to an established brand and a network of other electrical business owners. It also gave him people to collaborate with, particularly those working across the industrial and commercial sectors.

That shared knowledge became valuable as Andrew worked to improve the business and pursue increasingly complex opportunities.

Kinetic provided the wider foundation, but the growth still required strong leadership, careful decisions and a team capable of delivering.

Building deep technical capability

Over time, Kinetic Electrical East Tamaki developed a strong position in industrial electrical, commercial projects and automation.

The team now supports factories, warehouses, processing environments, water and wastewater facilities, production machinery and other operational sites where electrical reliability matters.

Its capabilities include industrial maintenance, electrical installations, automation, PLC and SCADA programming, control-panel construction, system integration, commissioning, fault finding and breakdown support.

This breadth means the team can do more than respond to an immediate electrical issue. It can understand how equipment, controls and systems work together, then develop a practical solution that supports the customer’s wider operation.

“We combine fast, reliable response with the technical depth to actually solve the problem.”

For customers managing live industrial environments, this combination of technical capability, communication and project management can make a significant difference.

Growth you can measure

The scale of Andrew’s business today looks very different from the three-person operation of 2011.

As of July 2026, the combined Kinetic Electrical East Tamaki and Franklin operation employed approximately 42 people across its office, qualified field team and apprenticeship programme.

The business also operated 26 active work vehicles and had more than 12 months of secure, committed work in its forward pipeline.

In the previous 12 months, it had delivered a project or contract valued at approximately $2 million.

These figures reflect more than growth in headcount. They demonstrate the team’s ability to manage larger projects, support complex customer environments and build long-term commercial and industrial relationships.

The business has grown without losing sight of the qualities its customers value: practical advice, reliable communication and the ability to complete work safely with minimal disruption.

Investing in the people behind the work

Andrew’s focus has not been limited to winning larger projects.

Building a more capable business has also meant creating opportunities for the people within it.

During the past year, team members across both the office and field operations moved into broader, more senior or specialised roles. The business also funded external professional development for its administration and field teams.

This investment helps strengthen the business from within.

It supports future leaders, builds specialist capability and gives employees a clearer path to develop as the operation continues to evolve.

Apprentices are also an important part of the team, helping the business develop the next generation of skilled electricians while building capability for the future.

Local leadership with a wider network

Andrew has remained actively connected with other Kinetic business owners throughout the company’s growth.

The ability to speak with people facing similar operational challenges, share knowledge and draw on different areas of technical experience has remained one of the strengths of the network.

At the same time, Andrew and his team have retained responsibility for the decisions, relationships and reputation that shape their local business.

Customers work with an experienced Auckland electrical team that understands their sites and operational requirements. Behind that team is a broader network of electrical business owners, shared knowledge and established support.

Now, through Kinetic’s partnership with Level Group New Zealand, the business remains locally led and proudly Kinetic, with additional systems, relationships and support available behind the scenes.

Still looking for what comes next

Andrew’s original motivation was the belief that the business could and should be doing better.

That same outlook continues to influence its next stage.

The focus now includes strengthening team performance, culture and productivity, while exploring opportunities to diversify into new services and areas of work.

The operation is considerably larger than it was in 2011, but growth has not removed the need to keep learning, adapting and improving.

Andrew’s story shows that joining Kinetic is not only a pathway for electricians starting their first business. It can also provide an established electrical business with the structure, connections and support needed to pursue a bigger ambition.
